Patriotism Beyond Politics and Religion (From Our Ignited Minds) - A. P. J. Kalam
Summary
The beginning of the chapter is inclusive of Kalam's daily routine of morning walk. He has predicted the dawn like some expected rendezvous with nature. It was inclusive of the praise of mother nature. There is something more blissful in the light coming directly from the sun, the reflection it portrays on the ground with melodies from the distant early birds, are in fact a glory. The rendezvous of sound, light, and air in dusk hours are magnificent, which ultimately made author grateful towards mighty.
Then Kalam mentioned how ITR(Interim Test Range) is slowly but surely growing into a world-class range supporting a number of missions for launching rockets, flight test vehicles, etc. After launching Prithvi, he went to search for a suitable island for the missile impact test.
For that, his meeting with another patriot Biju Patnaik, who was the CM of Orissa, stages a dramatic gist in reader's mind. In his anecdote, Dr. Kalam mentioned that he needed some islands to test defence missiles and other technologies. Mr. Patnaik, graciously acknowledged Author's request. He also shared his utmost desire to live for the day when India would make its own ICBM and he would be 'stronger as an Indian'.
Author narrated another story of Mr. Patnaik where he flew to meet Indonesian president Sukarno. Sukarno had recently welcomed a baby girl and wanted to name her. Then this patriotic personality started to quest in his mind and came across a Sanskrit equivalent name Megawati. Though, Indonesia is a major Muslim country and for the first time Muslim person would be naming his girl child with Hindu nomenclature.
Dr. Abdul Kalam remained accessible to the youth. He tried to reach the youth of our country and inspired them to become responsible citizens of our country and to contribute something to its development. He always dreamt of making India a developed country. Dr. Kalam used to say that if people will remember him as a good teacher that would be the utmost privilege for him. He had a firm belief in the tremendous potential of the youth of our country. He aimed at motivating India?s people, especially its youth for the development of our country. According to Dr. Kalam, throughout his career in Science and Technology, he had always counted upon the power and prospects of the youth. Given the freedom to achieve and guided properly, he was convinced the young of India can accomplish far more.
Every nation has struggled to achieve its goals. Generations have given their best to make life better for their offspring. There is nothing mysterious or hidden about this, no alternative to effort. And yet we fail to follow the winning track. Kalam believed that when we believe in our goals, that what we dream of can become reality, results will begin to follow. This chapter is about developing that conviction in ourselves, and discarding the things that hold us back.
